A Tale From The Dragon’s Breath Alehouse

Half a millennium ago, cataclysm drove our world into another Dark Age. Races and creatures we longed believed myths have re-emerged in a world no longer dominated by Man alone. Factions within the city jockey for power and against the prince while a new religion threatens the safety of all.
Tales of horror drift in from wandering travelers and trade vessels. Strange beasts and shadowy figures roam the night. Communication from outlying towns comes to an end. From out of the west, a long forgotten evil is amassing.
An unlikely group forms and seeks counsel from the elves in far away Moolinardil and learns our near destruction 500 years ago was caused by a foe older than Man himself—an ancient evil returning to complete our final annihilation.

An Ancient Evil A Tale From the Dragon Breath edition by William Marsch Literature Fiction eBooks

Wow! After reading thus book, the most I can articulate is, wow. This book was amazing. I read about 10-15 books a month, almost all of them are science fiction. And of all the books I have read, this was one of the best. It is in a very close second only to Anne Bishops "Black Jewels" series.

I would like to say that the "a-ha" moment when I realized the wierd sounding cities were actually the backwards spelled current city names occurred about halfway through the book. I stopped reading and promtly started the book again. The small subtle references to devastated 500 year old cities, made me smile. I think the world you built out of the ashes of the old was just damn brilliant!

The characters in this book were singularly endearing and complex, but as a whole, made the story a fantastic read. I appreciate the fact that you didn't rely on over the top displays of magic and superhuman abilities to make the sci-fi aspect of the story successful. The elves were magical, but not in a "shake my wand and -poof- make you dead" kind of way.

The biblical aspects of the book were so well written, they didn't feel like the reader was sitting in sunday school receiving a fire-and-brimstone lesson. There was a message of redemption and unity in this book that was subtle yet clear. I like how it didn't convey "follow god and be saved", but instead it told of how all are capable of following a path greater then themselves, no matter where they come from.

I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. I can't wait to see what challenges these characters will encounter.

Thank you for an amazing escape from reality, and for an amazing book.

An Ancient Evil A Tale From the Dragon Breath edition by William Marsch Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This story has it all with spellbinding action sequences of epic proportions and characters that are both flawed and heroic, This is a wonderful fantasy tale that shows a hero can be found in the most unlikely places.
WOW!! I just read the new edition of this book, and without giving too much away, I have to say that I was blown away by the subtle irony of the settings as they relate to our present world. An Ancient Evil is a heart-stopping read that literally drew me into a world on the brink of destruction. Some may call this work a fantasy, but it is written with such realism that, to me, the inhuman characters where believable and natural, as if they belonged in this world. There is subtle biblical parallelism in the theme, but I never got the feeling I was being forced down that path. The association is there only if you want it to be.

You'll meet a band of unlikely heroes as they embark on a dangerous journey to seek answers from a mysterious, hidden clan who holds the secrets of our ancestors and unlocks the resources needed to fight an ancient evil. What is the ancient evil? You'll recognize it when you realize its potential devastation.

William Marsch is a talented storyteller with a gift for bringing his characters and settings to life with such realistic imagery that I felt as though I was there on the bloody battlefield alongside kings and warriors as we fought unspeakable evil. I rode in the sky on the back of the beautiful ice dragon, Dedstoke, and delighted in her acrimonious attitude towards all humans...except her beloved Aonair. My favorite character—besides the uncharacteristic assassin, Ryn—is his friend and comrade and drinking buddy, Drexel. This guy is laid-back, sarcastic, comically apprehensive towards the ice dragon, and lethal in his protection of his friends.

I absolutely loved everything about the story and once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Now, I ask, when is the sequel coming out?!
I am not a reader of fantasy, but I read this at my husband's recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. It grabbed my interest from the opening pages and kept it until the end. The characters are compelling enough that I am rather hoping for a continuing series!
I blindly picked this up for the kindle app on my phone and couldn't have been happier with my selection. This tale is ever evolving and begins to take on many layers as it develops. The characters are rich and well developed and make it easy to connect with each of them. Like a previous reviewer I had the same aha moment when I realized the cities where current cities spelled backwards which had a major impact on how I interpreted the story. The only down side is now I have to wait for the second book. =)
I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, I am a life long fantasy and sci-fi fan and the cover caught my eye, but what I found was one of the most amazing fusions of post-apocalyptic fiction, classic fantasy and biblical theology I have ever encountered. Marsch built a vast world that was both fantastic yet familiar (more so once you work out the names of the cities) and populated it with some of the most real, complex and compelling characters who suck you into their back story from their introductions and keep you engaged through the very end. Once I started reading it I couldn't stop and was actually stunned many times through the story at the twists and revelations (pun intended) along the way of this epic tale of heroes, villains, dragons, demons, and ultimate redemption. Buy this book, you will not be disappointed, except for the fact you will have to wait for the next one!
